improvisation: New Orleans’ Gift to the modern world
November 30-December 2, 2018
The New Quorum is proud to partner with The Fertel Foundation in close collaboration with The New Orleans Jazz Museum (NOJM), the Fertel Foundation, the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA), The Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the Historic New Orleans Collection (HNOC) to present a Tricentennial conference, Improvisation, New Orleans' Gift to the Modern World. This collaboration between New Orleans’ premiere arts organizations will bring internationally known performers, artists and scholars together in an exploration of New Orleans’ improvisation as a close to the 2018 Tricentennial year. The conference will explore connections that New Orleans musical improvisation shares with other fields –theatre, literature, cuisine and storytelling - that have received less attention than music but are inspired by the rich musical culture of New Orleans. Full immersion into the nature and influence of New Orleans' improvisation is long overdue - 300 years.
Join us for a dynamic conference bringing together internationally known performers, artists and scholars in an exploration of improvisation across the arts – cuisine, music, literature, visual arts, politics and oral history.

Located in a New Orleans mansion on historic Esplanade Avenue, The New Quorum is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to bringing professional musicians and writers from across the globe to New Orleans for meaningful cultural exchange with local and regional artists. We promote and facilitate cultural exchange through our Artist Residency program, by producing musical and literary events, and by conducting an artist exchange program that provides New Orleans artists with cultural opportunities outside the city. All these programs and activities are designed to provide professional development and career support to New Orleans’ large and varied community of artists while disseminating the unique culture of our city worldwide.
